Dissonance

I was perusing Wikipedia on one of my favorite subjects, Psychology, and came across this interesting theory. It's called cognitive dissonance, and it might just explain my general feeling of uneasiness. Cognitive dissonance is basically the idea that conflicting ideas cause instability and imbalance within the mind, which constantly tries to fix dissonance by changing or removing ideas so that they flow smoothly with one another.

I feel like I have many conflicting ideas, which my mind refuses to change or let go of and it's causing me this general unease that I feel on a daily basis. For example, I always tell myself that I could care less about what other people think about me, yet I always feel self-conscious when speaking with others. It's aggravating.
